Denied? What to Do Next

Denied? What to Do Next

A denial is an opinion, not a verdict

Insurance companies deny claims for many reasons — some legitimate, many not. A denial letter is the carrier's position, and it can be challenged, supplemented and reversed with the right evidence.

Common reasons claims are denied

  • Alleged policy exclusions (wear-and-tear, gradual damage, flood)
  • Insufficient documentation of the loss
  • Missed deadlines or notice requirements
  • Disputed cause of loss
  • Lowball estimates dressed up as denials

What to do right now

  1. Read the denial carefully — identify the exact reason and policy language cited.
  2. Request everything in writing — the insurer's report, estimate and basis for denial.
  3. Gather your own evidence — photos, receipts, expert opinions.
  4. Do not accept it as final — you have rights to appeal, supplement and invoke appraisal.
  5. Bring in a public adjuster — before you argue with the carrier alone.
Many "denied" claims are simply under-documented claims. The right evidence changes the answer.
