A denial is an opinion, not a verdict
Insurance companies deny claims for many reasons — some legitimate, many not. A denial letter is the carrier's position, and it can be challenged, supplemented and reversed with the right evidence.
Common reasons claims are denied
- Alleged policy exclusions (wear-and-tear, gradual damage, flood)
- Insufficient documentation of the loss
- Missed deadlines or notice requirements
- Disputed cause of loss
- Lowball estimates dressed up as denials
What to do right now
- Read the denial carefully — identify the exact reason and policy language cited.
- Request everything in writing — the insurer's report, estimate and basis for denial.
- Gather your own evidence — photos, receipts, expert opinions.
- Do not accept it as final — you have rights to appeal, supplement and invoke appraisal.
- Bring in a public adjuster — before you argue with the carrier alone.
Many "denied" claims are simply under-documented claims. The right evidence changes the answer.
